Lake Union is a freshwater lake that’s totally within Seattle’s city limits. Floating homes line the east and west sides of the lake, offering fabulous views and a closeness to the water that can’t be beat.
Do you know who else lived on Washington’s Lake Union? That’s right, Sam Baldwin, the character played by Tom Hanks in the movie Sleepless in Seattle.
While not the houseboat featured in the movie, this tiny floating home recently sold for a whopping $490,000. Built in 1920, the floating house has just 640 square feet. If you do the math, that’s $765 per square foot – a Manhattan-esque price by any measure.
Those boats look awfully close.
